CHARACTER: CANON SECTION
NAME: Jamison "Junkrat" Fawkes
AGE: 25
CANON: Overwatch

CANON HISTORY: A link here but in case this doesn't entirely cover it...

Junkrat, aka Jamison, was born in the wasteland that is Australia. And no, that’s not just a joke about Australia, but by the time Jamie was born, most of it really was a wasteland (but not Sydney, they’re all fine there). In the years before his birth, there was the Omnic Crisis, which affected the world. Every country had some kind of upheaval, be it from actual damage done, or from the politics that happened afterward. In one such case, a terrorist attack on a nuclear facility and Omnium transformed a good part of Australia into a radiation-laden wasteland.

Cue, years later, Jamison Fawkes is born, and the Mad Max era of Australia has already begun. Omnics are more than hated in Australia, but outright despised, and considered the cause for the destruction of their country. So naturally, Jamison grows up in the same manner, calling them lovely nicknames like “Scrap heaps” and “Junk.”

Crime is rampant, and there’s not a whole lot the rest of the world wants to do to help change that, too busy with their own issues and recovery through the Omnic Crisis, and it’s pretty safe to say he never had any real parental-like influences, and was essentially a streetrat. So how to survive in a desert that’s essentially a unsanctioned post-apocalyptic world? You do what you need to. Due to the nature of this Dog Eat Dog environment he grows up in, you have to be smart, or deadly, or a combination of the two to survive.

So he does both. He knows he’s not big, or particularly strong, so he needs to be smart, and fast, and more intelligent than anyone he goes up against. He starts off reclaiming metal and components from the ruins. It's easier to get into ruins when you learn how to blow yourself an entrance, and so learns how to make bombs, and explosives, and traps, using whatever pieces of garbage or scrap he can get his hands on. He learns how to steal, and how to get away quick, so he can afford to keep going.

Eventually stealing to survive becomes stealing for fun, and he realizes he doesn’t want to stop. Finding an omnium in the Outback that contained an extremely valuable secret is what really got his name on the Wanted posters though. From that point on, he was forever hassled by whomever heard of him- and since he has a bad habit of not knowing when to shut up, that was basically everywhere. One particular bounty hunter by the name of Roadhog managed to catch him- but Junkrat's clever, and managed to convince Roadhog that they could have a partnership, a fifty-fifty split of whatever heists Junkrat had planned. After all, he was rich enough already- he didn't need more money. This was just for fun at this point.

With Roadhog, he starts moving onto bigger and bigger heists, leaving behind a string of crimes like robbery, arson, and murder. Junkers, in a world unaccustomed to the way Junkertown works, are not prepared to deal with a pair like them. Eventually, he steals the United Kingdom's crown jewels, and winds up known for untold millions of property damage around the world, from Britain to France to Latin America, and a hundred places in between.

CANON PERSONALITY:

Junkrat loves bombs. He loves explosives, dynamite, fireworks- anything that goes "boom." A very unusual love, but hilariously, it's probably been one of the most consistent things in his life. Bombs, he can make more of, and they usually (usually) do one very specific thing. Maybe it's the sound, maybe it's the look, who knows exactly why this became such a fascination for him outside of being very useful in a fight, but it certainly did.

Maybe it's from the radiation, or maybe it's from one-too-many knocks to the head, but remembering things isn't always his forte. Hilariously, it seems like Roadhog winds up being half the brains of the operation they have going on- in a more logical and concise sort of way. Junkrat's smart, but it's mostly, if not entirely, placed into his ability to make plans on his feet, rather than remembering what he last ate for breakfast.

And he really is smart. He's self-taught, learned how to make several forms of chemical weapons, armor, guns, at least two different types of remote controlled bombs, probably knows at least a few languages, and able to successfully rob, and make away with priceless riches, artifacts, and national treasures from multiple countries. Not something an idiot could do- but he definitely also is the kind of guy who, when a gun doesn't work right, will look directly into the barrel first.

Some say genius goes hand-in-hand with crazy, and trope applies very well to Junkrat as well. How does one figure out how an experiment with a bomb will go? Test it! Was this too much powder, or not enough? Test it! Is it possible to stand on a mine and use it to launch oneself into the air? Test it!

This is also probably the reason Junkrat only has half of his limbs.

But he isn't morbid about it. In fact, he doesn't seem to mind too much. He accepts it as it is, a fact of life, and nothing more. So he's only got a real arm and a leg, and the other one is mechanical, and his right leg is a peg-leg. What's the point in letting that get him down? He's living his life! Free, and wild, and absolutely doing whatever he wants... under most circumstances. Roadhog does keep him from going off half-cocked some of the time, out of a mix of self-interest in keeping Junkrat alive as his bodyguard, and because maybe at this point, he cares about the other.

Junkrat sure does imagine Roadhog to be his best friend. Calls him "hoggie" and other childish nicknames, often jokes around with him, and even defends him when other people call him "fat" (under the argument that only he's allowed to call Roadhog fat)...

Childish is even a good word to use for Junkrat, overall. He tends to put a sing-songy tune in his voice when he's happy, he's wildly impatient, and tends to make loud and violent sounds of frustration when things don't go his way. Junkrat's also got the same skill at lying as a child- by just stuttering and denying whatever it is he's accused of.

SKILLS/ABILITIES:

1. BOMBS. Making bombs, setting off bombs, blowing himself up with bombs... I'd say I was kidding with the last one, but I'm not.

2. ATHLETIC. Given his background and need to book it out of a place real fast (probably, after laying down some bombs), and the fact he's got a six-pack, he's probably pretty well off in the strength category.

3. CRAFTING. I don't mean arts and crafts, exactly, but he made his own weapons, as well as peg leg- along with Roadhog's gun, and armor.

4. MECHANIC. Not an official mechanic by any means, but he'd probably be able to do some quick repair-work, tweaking of some machinery, etc.

CHARACTER: AU SECTION
AU NAME: Jamison Fawkes
AU AGE: 25
PHYSICAL DIFFERENCES: A little less... on fire. He's got all his hair still, as well as all of his limbs. And a little less burnt smelling. He doesn't hunch over much at all like he usually does in canon, so he's standing at a full 6'5" most of the time.

AU HISTORY:

Jamison is from Australia- that much will never change. But now with a real family, and real parents, and a much better environment to grow up in, he’s nowhere near the anarchist thief he canonly is. He’s still a bit of a troublemaker, still has maybe a few sticky fingers, and his curiosity getting the better of him and his somewhat aggressive and antagonistic attitude still getting him into things he shouldn’t, here and there, but overall he's not a bad guy. Maybe that one kid who gets a little too crazy during a party, winds up stealing a street sign, but it's all in good fun.

He’s still very intelligent, despite his shortcomings in the "no, don't do that" department, and has been offered free scholarship to an American Grad School for furthering his education. On paper, he surely reads as a good candidate. But his parents know him, and if he was raising enough hell in Australia, then one can only imagine the shit he’s going to pull in America.

Cue Mako Rutledge, an old family friend who might have been considered a little rough around the edges, but an overall good guy. In Jamison's parents infinite wisdom, they offer Mako payment, as well as their eternal gratitude, to host and watch out over him while he's there.

EXPANDED INFORMATION (maybe I'll fix this so it looks prettier later):

[[His childhood was normal- pretty average for an Australia that didn't get totally jacked up on radiation at least. So there's still a bit of wildness to it, as one might know of from modern day Australia for anyone who lives outside of Sydney- there's still giant spiders, there's Swooping season, random lethal bugs or animals in your bathroom without cause for being in there, etc. It just kind of happens sometimes.

Maybe because of his nature to be a little more inclined towards just doing whatever he wanted for the sake of satisfying his curiosity, he wasn't considered too popular, but he had a decent amount of friends throughout school, but no one he ever was particularly close to. No "best friends" but just friends he could take or leave- no one ever really "clicked" with him.

Chemistry and building things were just talents that he seemed to take to so easily, it wasn't much of an effort, and so during high school he took to looking at what kind of jobs were around, and a pretty big company in Australia seems to always be looking for new hires! (Doesn't have to be exactly Orica, because, roleplay, but I thought the coincidence between a major explosives company and being in Australia was too good to pass up).

His parents were good people, supported him in his endeavours, and were actually very enthused that he intended to get such a high paying job, and wanted to pursue his education further. Especially since, while his father was not arrested himself for any crimes- his father had a fair share of ex-friends who had or were currently doing time. Having a son "on the right track" was a good thing.

He never had a huge amount of respect for authority overall, and his parents tended to overlook the bit of a rebellious streak he had, until he took it step too far. It was a party, specifically one of those ones where everyone is a bit too young, and a lot too drunk, and some fellow party-goers, along with himself, drove off mid-party to do a few more devious things. Trespassing, vandalizing, theft of street signs... but they were never caught for it by the police.

After his father had found out he had done such a thing (you know, walking into your sons room with at least a dozen more stop signs than there should be in there), he gave him a serious talking to about how bad one stupid mistake can change your life for the worse, using his ex-friends as examples.

So while Jamison might say stupid shit, has a poor filter on what he should and shouldn't say to people on occasion, and do a few dumb things... he's going to be very careful about making sure he doesn't break the law, even if he doesn't "respect" it. For example, maybe he'll happen to "find" an umbrella someone's left behind in a bin by the front door of a grocery store, but he's not going to lift a wallet.

Still, ever since the party-night, and his parents knowing going to a new country, all on his own (despite his age) is definitely a lure towards unstudious behavior... they were reminded of their old friend Mako, who happened to live in the exact same area. He isn't a babysitter exactly, but it's more like living with an estranged not-uncle. The idea is that Jamison will be less likely to start anything if he knows he's got someone to go "home" to, essentially.

As for why an American school would give him a scholarship, he had always wanted to travel the world, and to America specifically. It was one of those "write us an essay" sort of scholarships, and his grades were also tops enough that he was given the opportunity.]]

AU PERSONALITY:

Jamison's still the same in most aspects- he's very intelligent, skilled in what he does, not afraid to speak his mind- but he's definitely missing that batshit crazy aspect. Sure, he'll act a little bit like a shit, but he's not going to be actually letting the bombs loose or leaving someone behind for dead after a car crash. The lack of radiation, and lack of the horrible environment Junkers come from is going to be a huge influence on his morality in that he's actually going to have it. He'll also have all his limbs, now knowing how to properly exercise safety precautions when dealing with potentially dangerous chemicals, and even explosions.

He'll also be a bit more mature- the childish behavior not showing itself quite so much... but he's definitely a great deal better at lying. What kind of good kid with good parents wouldn't need to lie convincingly now and again so he can sneak out with his mates and drink a bit too much when he was younger?
